I wasn't sure about this book because I was so upset how the first half of this series went. I love Chloe and all the others in the Darkest Powers books, but once I started reading this and realizing how the books started to tie together, it was awesome. Maya loves animals and lives in a wildlife park with her family. They live in a town that is run by a research group. They pretty much have an awesome life. When things start getting weird, it's up to Maya and her friends to figure out what is going on in their town. This is a page turner. You will love this first installment with Maya and her friends. P.S. I want a pet bobcat!

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I went into this novel, but I loved it. Veronica Roth's world and characters are so perfectly synchronized. Sometimes you read books and the world is great, but the characters are bad, and vice versa, but the Divergent world is so artfully put together. I love the main character Tris evolves and you see it. You grow with her. You feel when she feels. It's hard for an author to do this to me and Roth does it flawlessly. I would recommend this book to anyone and don't go into it trying to compare it to the Hunger Games. Tris is not Katniss and the Divergent world is not Districts. Roth's story is so much more in depth and emotional. READ IT!

I don't know what voodoo writing master that Patricia Briggs prays to, but she cannot write a bad book. This one is fantastic. I absolutely love Mercy. I am not going to go into what is what. If you like the other Mercy books, you will love this one. So good.

# Book Review: A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

This was a big one! I wanted to read this because I love the show. With the True Blood series based VERY VERY VERY loosely on the Sookie Stackhouse novels, I was skeptical about how much of the books were actually present in the show. Well, judging by the first book--wow. It's almost exact. Even some of my favorite lines are directly from the novel. Okay, I am sure George R.R. Martin must be glad his books are getting the attention again and rightfully so. It is so hard for me to fathom the amount imagination this man must have. All the characters are so well crafted. Martin must have constant voices in his head (in a good healthy way). Some changes that I liked very much for the show were the ages of the people. For example, Daenerys Targaryen is only 13 in the books and the sexual relationship between her and Khal Drogo creeps me out. I know that these books take place in a different kind of time, but 13 is a little young. Going along with that thought, the incestual behavior is also offputting, but again, the story Martin is telling is kind of medieval fantasy so these kind of taboo things are easier to accept. Now if you can get past that, this book is wonderfully imaginative. It's hard to believe the same person writes every character. They are all so different. Fabulous book that did NOT disappoint me at all!

# Review: Spider's Revenge by Jennifer Estep

Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very good at it. Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen.
Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters she hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second.
Good thing I’ve got my powerful Stone and Ice magic — and my irresistible lover Owen Grayson — to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me...no matter what I have to do to make that happen.
This book was everything I hoped it would be. I am going to
mention names and possible plots. So if you haven’t read this book, I suggest
you don’t read any further.
Finally the showdown between Mab and Gin has started. Gin
starts off the book by trying to take out Mab at her home. Gin misses, but
plans to come back and finish the job. The big plan finally begins. A costume
ball is coming up and Gin’s boyfriend Owen has an invite. This is just the
chance for Gin to take her shot at Mab. Gin and Owen go to the costume ball—Gin
gets ready to take a stab at Mab, when
her plan is foiled by Jonah McCallister. Mab turns to see that the Spider is
Gin Blanco. Mab nearly burns Gin alive before she escapes. Mab will now stop at
nothing to bring down Gin Blanco, The Spider, that includes torturing her baby sister
Bria. Not only that, but Mab has hired a bunch of bounty hunters to bring the
spider down.
Like I said, this book was everything I wanted it to be. The
final showdown. Boy does this one move quickly. Gin goes from one predicament
to another. We know by this point that Gin will stop at nothing to protect the
ones she loves. Bria and Fin’s relationship is coming along and I hope to see
Bria and Gin get closer as well. Gin also sees her ice and stone magic come fully into power. I don't want to be a nitpicker, but in these books JoJo is always going on about how strong Gin is, but she users her powers in the most simple and ridiculous ways. Like she makes her skin hard as stone. That's cool, but if in fact Gin is as powerful as everyone says, wouldn't she be able to use her magic is sadistic ways when she was fighting people? I just think the logic in Etep's world of elemental magic is flawed. The main elements are (In these books),Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone. Cool. But wouldn't the logical elements be Earth, Air, Water and Fire? Earth would have the stone derivative and so on and so forth. Okay..so ice IS and ALWAYS will be a derivative of water. You can't have ice without water. So technically wouldn't an ice elemental have water powers as well? If that were the case, Gin could freeze every drop of H2o in a persons body, freezing them from the inside out. Instead she just makes ice flame and ice lock picks For someone who is supposed to be super powerful, her magic sucks. This didn't bother be until this book. I just realized how flawed the whole elemental makeup is realistically speaking.
A very cool thing about this book is that I think Gin dies.
She gets a chance to talk to her mentor Fletcher Lane. We as readers get some
answers for the motivations of the old man. This book was enjoyable and Estep
really knows her characters so well.

You might know me as the Spider, the most feared assassin in the South. I’m retired now, but trouble still has a way of finding me. Like the other day when two punks tried to rob my popular barbecue joint, the Pork Pit. Then there was the barrage of gunfire on the restaurant. Only, for once, those kill shots weren’t aimed at me. They were meant for Violet Fox. Ever since I agreed to help Violet and her grandfather protect their property from an evil coalmining tycoon, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m really retired. So is Detective Donovan Caine. The only honest cop in Ashland is having a real hard time reconciling his attraction to me with his Boy Scout mentality. And I can barely keep my hands off his sexy body. What can I say? I’m a Stone elemental with a little Ice magic thrown in, but my heart isn’t made of solid rock. Luckily, Gin Blanco always gets her man . . . dead or alive.
Gin is back, she is currently in retirement. Running the Pork Pit doesn't give her much
excitement, but when 2 college students come in and decide to rob her things
take a turn. One of the boys happens to be the son of a local powerful man. No
one is coming into Gin’s restaurant. One
day a college student comes in asking for the ‘Tin Man’, when seconds later someone
shoots at the window in the restaurant. Gin wants to help her any way possible and
find out why the girl was asking about the Tin man. So Gin is still in retirement, but very
loosely. She is on a mission. Gin is funny, she is one horny girl. She is
always eyeballing the opposite sex. It just so happens that hot detective Caine
is back and giving Gin hot flashes. This book moves very quickly and I loved
it. I find that Gin is starting to become more aware of herself as a person.
She isn't just Gin the assassin and I think that is going to be hard for her,
but I definitely look forward to the next book.
It will be interesting to see her life evolve.

So I saw that Ambers over at Awesomesauce were reading this and said it was awesome. So, as I usually agree with their tastes in books, I decided to red it!
This book is about Gin Blanco, assassin and all around bad ass. Seriously she is epic. In the first 20 minutes I was reading this book she killed someone with a screw. A SCREW. So when her "handler" as she calls him, Fletcher, gets killed, there is hell to pay. Not only that she has been double crossed by someone who wants her dead. This book is awesome. Gin is sexy, feisty, and has a heart of stone (kinda literally lol) She is a stone elemental, but she doesn't use her powers much. She is now on a mission to find Fletcher's killer with Fletcher's son Finn, and Detective Donovan Caine, a regulation Latino hottie. It just so happens that Caine doesn't want to work with Gin because she killed his partner. If you have a problem violence, don't read this book. If not, DON'T PASS IT UP. It is an outstanding novel.
The only thing I thought that was odd about this book was her fantasizing about Donovan Caine. It was like GIN FOCUS WOMAN!! She is obviously sex deprived, because sometimes she can't focus lol.

Bum bum bum bum.... bum bum bum bummmmmm... Okay enough with the wedding march. Mercy and Adam get hitched in the beginning of this one. Pretty awesome! SO they get to go away on a fantastic honeymoon.. where they umm.. get to stay in a trailer... stay with me now guys. I thought that was like the lamest honeymoon ever, but who am I to judge? Anywho she finds herself entangled with the local native american tribe and they are out to stop the river monster. I really loved this one. It never ceases to amaze me how creative Patricia Briggs is. She is easily one of my favorite authors. Mercy is so bad ass and selfless. I just love her. We get to find out a bit more about her dad in this one as well, which is pretty cool. I really love all the native american lore in this book. The story is just fantastic and I never got bored. If you love the Mercy series, you will love this one. Can't wait until the next!
Again, whoever does these is amazing. They are always just so perfect for the story. Here we can see the petroglyphs that are mentioned in the story. Also Mercy is looking all Native Americanish. It's just really awesome. I never have anything negative to say about these!

Mercy gets nasty crossed bones on the door of her garage, not knowing for sure what they mean; she goes out of town to help a friend with a ghost problem. I really liked this aspect of the book. I just wish it was longer in this section because it felt a bit rushed. Let’s just say after Mercy gets to her friend’s house the crap starts to hit the fan. The pace quickens so drastically, but luckily the book is awesome, so it works. I love her writing style. Great book!
Have I said how much I love the cover art lol? I do. I LOVE the cover art in this series. Mercy is hot with her mechanic stuff! I love she has her trusty fae walking stick too. The art is just beautiful. I have no idea if it's real honest to goodness hand drawn, or digital. It's just so fitting.
